Strategic Value Partners, LLC (SVP), a global alternative investment firm with approximately $22 billion in assets under management, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the remaining equity interests in Birdsboro Power, LLC. The deal, announced on May 8, 2026, brings the 485-megawatt natural gas-fired combined-cycle generation facility located in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, under full ownership of the SVP Funds. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
SVP initially acquired a one-third equity interest in Birdsboro in May 2025 and has served as the Managing Member of the facility since that time. Birdsboro Power is recognized for its efficiency, utilizing GE's advanced 7HA.02 gas turbine, which boasts a top-decile heat rate of approximately 6,300 Btu/kWh. The facility, commissioned in 2019, plays a crucial role in providing reliable and dispatchable generation to the PJM grid, which serves a substantial portion of the eastern United States.
The acquisition of the remaining equity interests from Sojitz Birdsboro LLC and Tokyo Gas America Ltd. is expected to enhance SVP's operational control and strategic direction over the facility. David Geenberg, Head of North American Corporate Investments at SVP, emphasized the growing demand for electricity in the region, driven by electrification and data center load. The full ownership allows SVP to leverage its operational expertise and investment strategies to optimize Birdsboro's performance further.
The partnership with EverGen Power, a firm established in 2024 to support SVP's power generation investments, has been instrumental in enhancing Birdsboro's commercial and operational performance. Ari Barz, Managing Partner of EverGen Power, noted the collaborative efforts to improve the facility's track record and expressed optimism about continuing to drive value with SVP's full ownership.
This transaction reflects broader trends in the energy sector, particularly the increasing demand for efficient and reliable power generation solutions amid growing electrification. The strategic consolidation of ownership at Birdsboro Power aligns with SVP's focus on special situations and opportunistic investments in critical infrastructure. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, the full ownership of Birdsboro Power positions SVP to capitalize on emerging opportunities and address the pressing energy needs of the region.
